Abstract

Impulsive buying is a phenomenon of spontaneous purchase of goods without prior consideration, this behavior is triggered by a strong emotional impulse towards certain products. This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between student self-control and impulsive buying behavior. The research was conducted on 403 students in Malang City with a quantitative research design, and simple linear regression analysis. The results of this study indicate a negative relationship between self-control and impulsive buying. This is evidenced from the regression test that there is a negative relationship between the two variables, where the sig. (p) 0,000 < 0.05. The self-control variable is able to explain changes in the impulsive buying variable by 24.9%, R² = 0.249, F (df) = 146.336. From the results of this study it can be concluded that there is a negative relationship between self-control and impulsive buying. The findings of this research not only make a significant contribution to the academic literature, but also offer strategies for handling impulsive buying to related parties, by strengthening self-control.
