Abstract

This study aims to explore the coping strategies used by teachers in deal with work-related stress at SLB X, Malang Regency. A qualitative approach with a phenomenological method was employed, involving five teachers from SLB X as respondents. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observation, and documentation, and then analyzed using data reduction techniques. The results show that managing the behavior of students with special needs (e.g., tantrums and aggression), lack of support from parents and the surrounding community, administrative demands, working beyond regular hours, and relationships with superiors and colleagues are potential sources of work stress. In facing these challenges, the respondents employed coping strategies that included problem-focused coping such as confrontation and problem-solving planning, and emotion-focused coping such as seeking social support, distancing, and certain forms of escapism to help maintain mental and emotional well-being. These findings highlight the importance of social support from schools and teacher development programs to minimize work stress, such as stress management training and improved communication between teachers and parents.
