Abstract

One of the factors contributing to the decline in prosocial behavior is the Bystander Effect. Bystander effect is a situation where people only observe without taking any action to help. This research was conducted to determine the influence of the bystander effect on prosocial behavior among students
in the city of Malang. This study uses an explanatory quantitative approach. The population in this study is students studying in the city of Malang. The sample in this study consists of 114 students studying in the city of Malang
using the accidental sampling technique. Data collection was conducted using two scales, namely the Bystander Effect scale (α = 0.904) and the prosocial behavior scale (α = 0.914). Data analysis was performed using simple linear regression analysis. Based on the results of the simple linear regression test, it shows that the Bystander Effect provides an influence that refers to the R result of 0.265 or 26.5% on prosocial behavior, while the remaining 73.5% is influenced by other factors.
