Abstract

Nicotine dependence is a public health problem that needs serious attention inthe world of health. The high risk of smoking can be caused by many things, oneof which is the level of anxiety and stress experienced by individuals. This studyaims to determine whether there is a correlation between anxiety levels andnicotine dependence. The methodology in this study is quantitative with 100participants who consume nicotine and are in early adulthood. The study usedthe State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) scale to measure anxiety levels and theFagerstrom Test for Nicotine Dependance (FTND) to measure nicotinedependence. The study used the Spearman Rank analysis technique whichobtained a significance value of 0.00 <0.05 and a correlation coefficient value of0.406. So it can be concluded that anxiety levels have a fairly significant positiverelationship with nicotine dependence. These findings are expected to contributeto the understanding of anxiety levels and nicotine dependence, so that readerscan reduce their nicotine dependence
