Abstract

Overseas students are new people and require to live in a different environment or area than before, in this case it can cause problems for students such as loneliness. Social support is able to minimize feelings of loneliness. Another factor, to reduce loneliness is self-compassion, which is treating self well and not being burdened by negative thoughts. This study aims to determine the relationship between social support and self compassion with loneliness among overseas stidents in Malang city. The sampling technique used purposive sampling of 100
respondents. The measuring instruments used were the UCLA loneliness scale, social support scale and self-compassion scale with the Likert scale model. The research method used is a quantitative with multiple linear regression analysis techniques. The classical assumption test shows that the data is normally
distributed (0.088 > 0.05), multicollinearity does not occur (t value = 0.792 > 0.01, VIF value = 1.263 <10) and is free of heteroscedasticity (p > 0.05). The results of the hypotheses test shows that 1) there is a relationship between social support
and loneliness with a β value = -0.027 and significance value of 0.007 (p < 0.05), 2) there is no relationship between self compassion with loneliness with a β value = 0.001 and significance value of 0.297 (p > 0.05).
