Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has had many impacts on the sports sector, one of which causes saturation in athletes. In psychology, burnout is called burnout. Achievement motivation is seen as one of the factors that can predict the tendency of individuals to experience burnout. This study aims to determine the relationship between achievement motivation and burnout in cycling athletes.
The research population was 32 cycling athletes in Malang City. The sample is 32 with saturated sampling technique. The measuring instrument used in this research is the burnout scale with 33 moving coefficient items 0.166 - 0.597 and the achievement motivation scale with 47 moving coefficient items 0.055 - 0.655. The validity test uses the product moment formula and the reliability test uses the alpha coefficient formula.
Hypothesis testing was carried out using the product moment formula which resulted in a correlation coefficient of -0.407 with a p value of 0.021 (p <0.05). It means that there is a significant negative relationship between achievement motivation and burnout in cycling athletes. It is interpreted that the higher the
level of achievement motivation in athletes, the lower the tendency for burnout behavior to appear. On the other hand, if the athlete has a low level of achievement motivation, it is likely that burnout behavior will appear.
