Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a relationship between body dissatisfaction and consumptive behavior in students at the Merdeka University, Malang. This study uses quantitative research methods, using two variables, namely body dissatisfaction and consumptive behavior. The data was obtained using a Likert scale, namely the body dissatisfaction scale and the consumptive behavior scale. In this study, the sample was taken using the Slovin formula with an error rate of 10%, which was obtained as many as 100 subjects from 3,909 people as a population with a sampling technique using accidental sampling. Based on the results of the study, it is known that there is a significant positive relationship between body dissatisfaction and consumptive behavior in University of Merdeka Malang students, which is indicated by the Pearson correlation value (rxy) of 0.089 with a sig value of 0.008 (p < 0.05). Based on this, the hypothesis put forward by the researcher that there is a relationship between body dissatisfaction and consumptive behavior at Universitas Merdeka Malang is accepted.
