Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim of knowing the effect of father attachment on social competence in adolescents in Sumenep City. Adolescence is referred to as a period full of disasters, upheavals and pressures that can be seen from the problems they face as well as changes in mood. The task that is considered the toughest task for adolescent development is the task of social competence. Adolescents are required to be able to adapt to a new social environment as well as social expectations. Social competence is a potential that includes the ability to think, control oneself and emotions as well as the ability to see assumptions or perspectives from other people around them. The level of social competence is caused by many factors, one of which is family relationships. Father's participation in the parenting process is related to academic achievement, social competence, and children's self-esteem. This research uses quantitative research. The sampling technique used is a purposive sampling technique using 450 Sumenep city’s youth based on 5% Arikunto’s theory. Analysis of the file used in this study using purposive sampling, and hypothesis testing with simple linear regression analysis. The reseach showed a positive influence between father attachment on social competence. The more adolescents have a close relationship with their father, the higher their social competence also will be high.
