Abstract

One of the student duties as an early adult individual was to select and plan a career. In fact, in the field, surveys show that many students have not yet had the goal of what career to pursue. One problem that students lack the ability to determine their career goals is the increasing number of unemployed. Mistakes in making a decision in deciding a career are due to inferior career maturity. In career decision making, an important factor of emotional intelligence may be, as high emotional intelligence can help an individual direct one's thoughts and actions in the process of planning a career. The study employed a quantitative approach, which was intended to know how emotional intelligence would affect career maturity in university students in the Malang City. Samples in this amounted to 383 students studying in Malang City with purposive sampling technique. The results of the hypothetical test using a simple, linear regression test analysis technique, getting an f count of 311.993 with a degree of significance of 0,000 (< 0.05), and a coefficient value of determinations (R^2) are obtained by 0.450. The score suggests that the hypothesis of this research was accepted. Then it may be assumed that there is a 45% influence of emotional intelligence on career maturity in university students in the Malang City.
