Abstract

Academic procrastination is a form of behavior delaying formal assignments and is related to the academic field (Ferrari, et al. 1995). Academic procrastination among students who are working on their thesis is often carried out by students, so that the thesis is late to complete and late to graduate. Stress or feelings of pressure felt by students as a result of delaying working on their thesis can be overcome with coping strategies. Problem focused coping coping strategies can be used by students who are experiencing stress from working on their thesis. Problem focused coping deals with stress by facing problems directly and finding solutions to these problems. This study aims to determine the effect of problem focused coping on academic procrastination behavior in students who are working on their thesis in the city of Malang. The research method used is quantitative. The sampling technique used purposive sampling of 100 students who were working on their thesis in the city of Malang. The data collection method uses the coping stress scale (46 valid items) and the academic procrastination scale (51 valid items). Data analysis used simple linear regression analysis. The results of the data analysis show that there is an effect of stress coping with an effective contribution of 27% on academic procrastination.
