Abstract

Work stress is pressure that causes uncomfortable reactions and affects emotions so that it affects the thought process and actions of employees including physical reactions, psychological disorders, and behavior. One factor that can minimize work stress in employees is emotional intelligence. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of emotional intelligence on work stress in employees in Malang City. This study uses a quantitative research approach. The sample in this study was 100 employees in Malang City obtained through purposive sampling techniques. Data collection used an emotional intelligence scale and a work stress scale in the form of a Likert scale. The data analysis technique used a simple linear regression test. The results of the data analysis obtained F = 41.671 with sig. 0.000 and a correlation value of -0.722, this proves that there is a significant influence between emotional intelligence on work stress with a negative influence. This means that the higher the emotional intelligence, the lower the work stress, and vice versa. Emotional intelligence contributes to work stress by R2 29.8%. This shows that the large influence of emotional intelligence on work stress is 29%, the remaining 71% is influenced by other factors
