Abstract

Being away from family is the choice of students who want to pursue and continue their education in a different place from where they live. This leads to the individual often missing their home. Peer social support is seen as one of the factors that can predict the tendency of individuals to experience homesickness. This study aims to determine the effect of peer social support on homesickness in overseas students in Malang. The research population was 4700 regional students in Malang City during the covid-19 pandemic. The total sample is 116 people using a simple random sampling technique. The measuring instrument used in this study is the homesicnkness scale with 26 items moving coefficient items from -0,043-0,674. and peer social support scale with 30 items moving coefficient items from -0,026 – 0,756. The validity test uses the product moment formula and the reliability test uses the alpha coefficient formula. Hypothesis testing was carried out using the liniear regression analysis technique formula which produced in a correlation coefficient of 908,870 with a p-value of 0,000 (p <0,05). This means that there is a significant peer social support of homesickness in regional students in Malang. In conclusion that the higher the level of peer social support for students, the lower the tendency to feel homesickness. On the other hand, if a students has a low level of peer social support, the person is likely the feeling homesickness
