Abstract

he high problem of online gambling, especially among young adults, is caused by the lack of executive functions of the brain such as remembering instructions and handling multiple tasks simultaneously. Low self-control in a person is also a result of someone having difficulty in resisting the desire to gamble online. This study aims to determine the effect of self-control on the tendency to be addicted to online gambling. The methodology in this study is quantitative with the aim of determining the effect of self-control on the tendency to be addicted to online gambling. The sampling technique uses snowball sampling. Data collection through a self-control scale and a scale of tendency to be addicted to online gambling. Based on the results of the hypothesis test, self-control has a significant effect on the tendency to be addicted to online gambling in early adulthood. Self-control has a 53% effect on the tendency to be addicted to online gambling in early adulthood. The direction of the relationship is negative, meaning that the higher the self-control, the lower the tendency to be addicted to online gambling in early adulthood and vice versa, the lower the self-control, the higher the tendency to be addicted to online gambling in early adulthood
