Abstract

This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between fear of failure and self-esteem in thesis students at Merdeka University Malang. This study used a quantitative method, using a simple random sampling technique, the population in this study totaled 1,667 subjects with a sample of 94 subjects. This study applies the fear of failure and self-esteem scale as a data collection method. This study uses product moment correlation analysis to examine the relationship between fear of failure and self-esteem in thesis students at Merdeka University Malang. The results of the linearity test were 0.799 > 0.05, which means that the relationship between fear
of failure and self-esteem in thesis students at Merdeka University Malang has a linear relationship. From the results of product moment analysis, the correlation coefficient is -0.354 and the significance result is 0.000 <0.025, it can be concluded that these two variables have a negative relationship, high self-esteem means low fear of failure and vice versa if fear of failure is high then self-esteem will low. The results of this study stated that the self-esteem of thesis students at the Merdeka University of Malang had moderate self-esteem towards high with a percentage of 50% while the fear of failure for thesis students at the Merdeka University of Malang was low with a percentage of 38%.
