Abstract

One of the impacts of a mother caring alone for a child with paranoid schizophrenia is suboptimal psychological well-being. Psychological well-being is defined by individual's ability to accept oneself, be able to establish good relationships, have autonomy, be able to master the environment, have a purpose in life, and develop one's potential. This study aims to determine the psychological well-being of single mothers who have children with paranoid schizophrenia. The research method uses a qualitative approach with case study techniques. Research subjects were determined purposively. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis uses the theories of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana, namely data collection, data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions/verification. Test credibility using the triangulation method. The results of research on two subjects show that the prominent aspect is autonomy in financial matters and childcare which is influenced by age factors and social support. Both subjects are expected to improve aspects of self-acceptance, positive relationships, environmental management, life goals and personal development in order to optimize psychological well-being
