Abstract

One of the challenges for prospective students who choose to continue their education outside the island is facing a different cultural adjustment from the area of origin. Culture shock is a condition that describes new circumstances and feelings in dealing with the cultural environment and social conditions that are different from their original environment which causes psychological problems such as stress, anxiety, confusion, and surprise, the emergence of feelings of irritability, irritability, and hostility to their environment so that they become incompetent in living their daily lives as a new person in a new culture. As social beings, we need other people in our daily life. Likewise when making adjustments in a new environment. This study is a study to determine the effect of peer social support on the culture shock of Flores students in the city of Malang. The data collection technique used the instrument of peer social support scale and culture shock scale. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The number of samples in this study includes 100 subjects. Validity and reliability tests were carried out using SPSS 25 for windows. Hypothesis testing was performed using simple regression analysis with a significance score of 0.001 (p<0.5). The results showed that peer social support variables had an influence on the culture shock of Flores students in the city of Malang. The effective contribution of peer social support variable is 10.6% to the culture shock variable of Flores students in Malang city.
