Abstract

Generally, self-disclosure is done face-to-face with the closest person. However, with the development of technology and information, self-disclosure can be done through social media freely and to anyone. Freedom in self-disclosure that is not carried out properly, can have negative impacts, such as bullying and withdrawing behavior from the social environment. This study was conducted to determine the behavior of self-disclosure carried out by early adults through TikTok, to find out the motives that encourage self-disclosure on TikTok, and to determine the impact that can be caused by self-disclosure through TikTok. A qualitative method with a descriptive phenomenological approach is used to test and answer a specific person's problems in certain ways through the questions of how, where, what, when, and why. Research and data collection is done online through social media such as Whatsapp, email, and Instagram. Qualitative research with a phenomenological model using 3 research subjects. The purposeful sampling technique was used with the criteria of the subject being in the age range of 21-40 years and using TikTok social media. The results of this study include self- disclosure behavior with different aspects in each subject, there are different self- disclosure motives depending on the encouragement or needs of each individual. The positive impact of self-disclosure on TikTok social media is feeling relieved and releasing the burden, both from stress and the burden of things to be conveyed to the public, as well as various feedbacks from netizens that can create interesting discussions and conversations. The negative impact of self-disclosure can occur bullying and also withdrawal behavior, where at a certain level this behavior is a form of deviant behavior that is classified as passive, which can interfere individual’s social interaction skills
