Abstract

Social stratification marriages or inter-caste marriages that occur in Kei, Southeast of Maluku, are marriages that often cause problems for married couples who experience stratification pressure due to rejection from the family. The caste classification that occurs in Kei is divided into three parts, namely the mel-mel caste, ren-ren and ir-iri. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach which aims to make couples know the meaning of their choices in choosing partners from different castes and how meaningful life can be achieved by partners. This study used in-depth interviews to collect data from four respondents using purposive sampling technique. The data analysis technique used the Stevick-Colaizzi-Keen data analysis method. The results show that the meaning of life is obtained from the appreciation of every event that has been passed by each couple in marriage and from each of these events each couple finds the meaning of life from their choices.
