Abstract

The phenomenon of chaos that occurred during demonstrations attended by students in Malang City caused casualties and even damage to public facilities which caused the government and the community to oppose the anarchic behavior. It is known that students should have good emotional, cognitive, and social levels, but in reality students still encounter aggressive behavior, one of which is anarchic actions when conducting demonstrations. This makes this study aim to determine the effect of self-control on student aggressiveness as student activists in demonstrations in Malang City. The method in this study uses a quantitative method. Data analysis was performed using simple linear regression. The population of this research is the student activists of Universitas Merdeka Malang who join the BEM-F Psychology, DPM-F Psychology, BEM-U UNMER, and DPM- U UNMER organizations. The research sample was 99 students. Sampling was done by using proportional random sampling technique. The results showed that self-control had a role in eliciting aggressiveness in students during demonstrations. This can be indicated from the regression results which show significant results (r = 0.741; p < 0.01) with a regression coefficient of 0.55 or the magnitude of the influence of self-control and aggressiveness of 55%.
