Abstract

Most teenagers are vying to get the perfect appearance as depicted in social media. When their physical appearance is not perfect, problems often arise related to body image where the teenager feels dissatisfied and disappointed. Then, there is a negative perception of their body or negative self-esteem. This The manifestation of the conditions could have a negative impact to the perception of their body or negative self-esteem. This condition can trigger the emergence of anxiety, which can indirectly affect the ability of adolescents to socialize with the environment as well as with other individuals. This study aims to determine the effect of self-esteem on body image in adolescent girls. The research method used is quantitative. The population used is the students of the University of Merdeka Malang, with a sample of 100 teenage girl. The data collection method used is a questionnaire, using primary data and secondary data. The data obtained was then processed using the statistical software SPSS. The results showed that the regression coefficient value was 0.595, with a significance level of 0.000, that is self-esteem had a significant influence on the body image of young women. The cocleaning force of 32,9% influence the body image and the rest of 67,1% is affected by another factor.
