Abstract

Online shopping application is one form of information technology advancement and has positive and negative impacts. One of the negative impacts of online shopping applications is that it can lead to consumptive behavior. This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between perspective taking by parents on consumptive behavior in online shopping for overseas students. The research hypothesis is that there is a negative relationship between perspective taking and consumptive behavior among overseas students. This study uses a quantitative approach. This study uses a purposive sampling technique, with the criteria of overseas students from outside Java, aged 18-25 years, and active users of online shopping applications. The sample of this study was 273 overseas students at Merdeka University, Malang. Data collection uses two scales, namely the perspective taking scale and the consumptive behavior scale. The data analysis method in this study is Spearmen's Rho nonparametric correlation analysis. The result of correlation analysis shows -.408 which means that there is a significant negative relationship between perspective taking on consumptive behavior.
