Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of social support on self- acceptance of parents who have children with special needs in SLB Kediri. The research in this thesis is motivated by the lack of self-acceptance of parents to the condition of their children who have special needs, so social support is needed. Self- acceptance is a psychological mechanism that allows individuals to survive and entertain themselves by recognizing and accepting a condition that is both positive and negative. When an individual accepts himself, it will increase self-understanding. Self-acceptance also helps a person stay open to the experiences of others, recognize and experience them. Individuals who have self-acceptance are reflected in their attitudes towards themselves and others. Social support is the provision of psychological or material resources by people in the environment around individuals with the aim of dealing with stress. This study took a population using a saturated sample technique of 73 parents who have children with special needs. The research method used is quantitative methods. The data collection method uses two psychological scales, namely, the self-social support scale (30 valid) and the self- acceptance scale (32 valid). Data analysis used simple linear regression analysis. The results of the hypothesis test between Social Support and Self-Acceptance were obtained at 0.006, which can be concluded that there is an influence between social support variables of 10% on the self-acceptance variable.
