Abstract

Museum management needs to be carried out by every citizen/community, group and government. This is done as an effort to preserve cultural values. One of them is the government's role in managing museums with Malang Mayor Regulation Number 33 of 2021 concerning Position, Organizational Structure, Duties and Functions and Work Procedures of the Education and Culture Service. In its implementation, it shows that the policy aims to emphasize that the Department of Education and Culture has the task of implementing government affairs in the cultural sector.
The regulations that have emerged to regulate this matter show that these regulations do not appear to be supported by the readiness of government officials to implement them both from above and below and there is a lack of public awareness about the existence of these policies. For this reason, the Malang City Education and Culture Service is tasked with implementing regulations, one of which is the management of the Mpu Purwa Museum. This explanation does not provide meaning regarding the implementation of mayoral regulations managed by the cultural service, regarding the extent to which this has been done and the obstacles that have arisen, so it is necessary to determine strategic steps. This research is based on qualitative descriptive methods, using informants from Education and Culture service staff and Mpu Purwa Museum staff. This research also aims to describe and analyze the role of the Education and Culture Service in managing the Mpu Purwa Museum. As well as to describe and analyze supporting and inhibiting factors in the management of the Mpu Purwa Museum. Based on the results found from this research, in general, a lack of resources can hinder the development of the Mpu Purwa Museum. Then, the lack of budget funding support meant that the plans that had been planned could not be realized.
