Abstract

Street children are part of a public problem that has not been comprehensively resolved by the central and regional governments. Even though many regulations and policies have been issued, the problem of street children still exists and is always increasing in number. Street children are not a foreign phenomenon, especially in big cities where the level of urbanization is very high and ideal economic development is an area to fulfill life's needs without having to think about the abilities and skills they have. This program for handling street children shows that the Malang City Social Service is one of the responsible stakeholders. The Malang City Social Service has implemented its duties to deal with street children based on existing regulations. In implementing the program, the actions taken include preventive actions, repressive actions and rehabilitative actions. In preventive efforts, the programs or activities carried out include making appeals to parents and the community, providing assistance to economically disadvantaged families, and carrying out deterrents on the streets. For repressive action, namely by carrying out control on highways, temporary shelter in assessment camps, which will then be given training and guidance. And for rehabilitative action, the Malang City Social Service has implemented identification and assessment programs or activities, ability restoration, training activities and creativity programs for street children.
