Abstract
Leadership is the central point and determines the policies of the activities that will be carried out in the organization. The sub-district head has the main task of implementing government authority delegated by the region and as a coordinator, facilitator and mediator for the community in all ongoing programs. Therefore, the leadership of the sub- district head of Sukun sub-district greatly influences services in the sub-district. Services in the sub-district run well if the sub-district head carries out his duties responsibly. This research is descriptive in nature using a qualitative approach. Data sources consist of primary data and secondary data collected using data collection techniques through observation, interviews and documentation of all phenomena and information from various related data sources. This research instrument consists of the researcher himself, an interview guide, and writing tools. The results of this research indicate that the role played by the Sukun sub-district head is good in improving employee performance. This indication can be seen from the performance of employees in carrying out work tasks by striving for punctuality, high discipline as seen from employee attendance, good cooperation between employees and the quality of work produced by employees is also relatively good. This can be realized by the role carried out by the sub-district head which includes decision making involving subordinates, communication with subordinates that is well established in one direction as a form of formal and two-way communication through superior-subordinate relationships, in addition to that the sub-district head provides support and direction to his subordinates by means of carry out supervision, although the role of the sub-district head can be said to be quite good. In this case, the leader must focus his role by supervising not only the elements below him, namely the Head of Division, but also all employees or staff who do not have positions.
