Abstract

Cracks in concrete are caused by many things such as overload, design errors, and incorrect implementation. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of strengthening external restraints on square concrete columns that have been loaded using steel plates on compressive forces. The test object used measured 15 x 15 x 30 cm which was first compressed at the age of 28 days until it reached a load of 85% Pn. Then external restraint reinforcement was installed using steel plates with variations in spacing, width and thickness of the steel plates. Test specimens with restraints are compressed until they reach the maximum load so they are damaged. There were 30 test objects used consisting of 3 normal test objects and 27 test objects with restraints which were divided into 3 populations. The planned concrete quality is 21.9 Mpa. Compressive force testing based on ASTM C39 standards. The research results of the test object with the highest average value of concrete compressive force with variations in spacing of 0 mm, width of 180 mm and thickness of 1 mm was 73.01 tonnes. while the test object with the lowest average value of concrete compressive force with variations in spacing of 25 mm, width of 70 mm and thickness of 0.40 mm was 43.36 tons.
