Abstract

The prediction of a global recession in 2023 is a trigger for countries in the world to prepare their countries for this possibility, indications of a global recession can be seen through the significant increase in benchmark interest rates in several countries with the aim of preventing inflation. Indonesia as a country needs to take preventive measures to deal with unstable world economic conditions, especially in the banking sector. The banking sector is one of the strategic tools to maintain the stability of the country's economy. Bank Indonesia has designed a soundness rating system based on prudential banking principles through the Risk Based Bank Rating (RBBR) method. The RBBR assessment method is used as an early warning system for banks to prevent banking malfunctions like in 1998.
This research utilizes the components of the RBBR method which are used as variables to be studied more deeply, can the components of the RBBR method predict potential bankruptcy in the banking sector in Indonesia. Components in RBBR consist of Risk Profile proxied by Non Performing Loans (NPL) & Loan to Deposit Ratio (LDR), Good Corporate Governance (CCG) proxied by Total Board of Directors (JDD) and Proportion of Independent Commissioners (PDKI), Earning proxied by Return on Assets (ROA) & Net Interest Margin (NIM), and Capital is proxied by the Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR). Meanwhile, the Bankruptcy Potential uses the Altman and Grover Methods, which are then compared with the results.
This research uses a descriptive quantitative research approach. The research object is conventional commercial banks for the 2018-2021 period which were determined through purposive sampling, then secondary data is taken through bank financial reports that have been published on the official website or on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). The data were then analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis. The results obtained with Y: Zscore Altman variables LDR, JDD, NIM, and CAR have a significant positive effect, the NPL variable has a significant negative effect, and the PDKI and ROA variables have no significant effect. While the acquisition of Y: Grover's Zscore for the LDR, ROA, NIM, and CAR variables has a significant positive effect, and the NPL, JDD, and PDKI variables have no significant effect.
