Abstract
Mixture of Asphalt Concrete – Wearing couse is a surface layer on highway pavement. In this study, we will use the Fineness Modulus as a determinant of asphalt content estimates for asphalt concrete design experiments. The material used in this research is pyrophylite taken from PT. Bale Mountain, Malang Regency, East Java. This research will be conducted to determine the asphalt content by analyzing the relationship between the Fineness Modulus and the Marshall parameter on the AC – WC type mixture on the highway. The Marshall test results of the three gradations with the AC-WC mixture are as follows, the fineness modulus value is 5.8 with the best bitumen content of 6.5% for the upper limit gradation, the fineness modulus value is 6.3 with the best asphalt content of 6.25% for the limit gradation in the middle, the fineness modulus value is 6.9 with the best bituminous content of 6% for the lower limit gradation. The relationship between Fineness Modulus and Marshall Parameters is in accordance with the limits of Marshall criteria based on Bina Marga Specifications: the value of Flow, VMA, VFA, obtained the greater the value of the fineness modulus, the smaller the marshall parameter and for VIM, MQ values obtained the greater the fineness modulus, the greater the meal. Resulting Marshall parameters. It can be concluded that the Fineness Modulus affects the determination of the required asphalt content so that the fineness modulus can be used as a determinant of the asphalt content of AC-WC type mixtures.
