Abstract
In reinforced concrete construction, bamboo can be used as a substitute for steel. The concept of confinement has been proposed as one of the new methods. This study aims to determine the effect of the configuration shape of bamboo stirrups on the axial compressive strength of bamboo-reinforced concrete columns. The test specimen is in the form of a column measuring 150 x 150 x 650 mm with a concrete strength of 25 MPa. The independent variable used is the variation in the configuration of the confinement reinforcement, and the dependent variable is the compressive force. At 28 days of concrete age, a compressive test was conducted on the bamboo-reinforced concrete column using a universal testing machine in accordance with ASTM C192 standards. The research results show that the
configuration of bamboo stirrups affects the compressive strength of the column.
Variations in the configuration (2 horizontal-vertical cross ties; 1 horizontal cross tie; and 1 diagonal cross tie) have compressive strength values of 279.57 kN, 265.17
kN, 262.10 kN, respectively, and without stirrups (normal concrete) at 249.73 kN. This proves that in this study, the shape of the cross ties can reduce the core area of
the concrete, resulting in greater compressive strength.
