Abstract
The teacher's lack of understanding is related to the heterogeneous characteristics of students with special needs, causing the teacher to experience difficulties in dealing with them according to their needs. The purpose of this research is to analyze the understanding of teachers in dealing with students with special needs. This research method is a qualitative research using a qualitative descriptive approach. From the results of observations at the school, there were 2 teachers who handled students, totaling 10 students with heterogeneous special needs. The results of the research yielded, among others: (1) students with special needs have characteristics of slow speech, visual impairment, limitations in movement, mental retardation, and behavioral disorders (ADHD and Autism); (2) the teacher's lack of understanding in dealing with students with special needs is due to teacher qualifications that are not in accordance with the fields of special education or psychology; (3) the development of students in these schools tends to be slow due to the lack of teachers who accompany and handle each student with special needs in the class. The teacher's limited level of understanding regarding ABK will ultimately affect the handling and services of students with special needs at the school.
