Abstract

Literature plays an important role in the development of Indonesian language and culture. Literary works are
closely related to society’s life, particularly culture as they act as a vehicle to perpetuate the development of Indonesian
Language and Culture. Indonesian culture attracts people. If Indonesian literary works reflect good and quality aspects
of culture, they will attract domestic and foreign readers. A literary writer who has succeeded in capturing the elements
of Indonesian culture and has won some domestic and foreign awards is Ahmad Tohari with his famous novel of
Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk. Many emerging writers appear on the literary field but they put more emphasis on foreign
culture instead of their native culture which are better and more fascinating. Therefore, literary writing training is
necessary as a manifestation of the Indonesian language and culture development in a collaboration with schools,
writers, Indonesian language teachers or lecturers, local governments and the central government. This collaboration
has a purpose of increasing the interest in writing culture-based literature among youth and developing Indonesian
language, which is not limited to writing.
