Abstract

The construction of toilet is an activity to improve and maintain the standard of basic environmental conditions and can affect the welfare of the community. This condition includes stopping open defecation so that it is free from infectious diseases and there is no environmental damage.
This study aims to determine the implementation of comonity participation in the construction of toilets in darat pantai vilage, talibura district, sikka regency. This research is a qualitative research, the authors take sample data using purposive sampling, amounting to 15 people. Data collection techniques in this study used the methods of observation, interviews and documentation. The date analysis technique uses miles and huberman dalam (sugiyono, 2011: 91) who suggests that there are three steps in data analysis, namely data reduction, data diplay and data verification. The theory that the author uses for community participation in the construction of toilets is the planning stage, the implemantion stage, the supervision stage, the maintenanve and utilization stage, namaly the cheon anf uphoff theory.
The results o fthe author’s research finding indicate that community participation in toilet development in darat village is optimal because planning activities fully involve the local community to take part ini the implemantion of development. The realization of this toilet construction wa carried out by the local government and there was self-help from the communit. In addition, the community is also involved in the development of the results of development and maintenance as well as the use of development can be seen from the results of the existing development in darat pantai vilage which has provided many benefits to the local community. So that community partisipation from each stage is active. Community participation from each stage is active. Community participation in the implemention of toilet construction has carried out in affective and participatory manner so that the people of darat pantai village have not carried out open defecation and have not contracted infectious diseases and there has been no environmental damege.
