Abstract
Communication technology brings its own changes in forming a new culture. So that formed
the concept of technology and information society. In the concept of baudrilard, once a new
culture was formed because of the language aspect. However, at this time a new culture
emerged due to the large current in the use of new digital media. Young people who are often
termed millennial generation are active and massive users of social media which are new
media products. Cognitive, affective and psychomotor transformations have been contained
through the massive use of new media. Including the shift in media literacy by millennial
generation. From this phenomenon, a new culture is automatically formed namely digital
culture. The research method used is qualitative descriptive with literature study. From the
results of existing literature studies that the creation of digital culture is not necessarily
followed by information disclosure and media literacy in millennials. The built-in digital
culture stems from the high intensity of the use of new media both social media and other
digital media. The challenge faced by millennial generation in applying media literacy is to
understand content critically, especially in understanding content. In literacy culture there is
a practice of centralizing activities that are internet based and use digital media. The
conventional culture of young people is gradually shifting towards a more practical and
modern culture. Digital culture is a culture of continuous texts, such as: commodification,
consumerism, lifestyle, existence on social media, instant action. Digital culture sub-culture:
technocratic (techno-meritocratic), hackers, virtual and entrepreneurial communities. The
four sub-cultures have a correlation with media literacy. The failure of literacy by millennial
generations brings cultural shock.
