Abstract

This study aimed to explore the contribution of social support to the achievement of elementary school students. This study used indigenous psychology approach with a qualitative survey method. Data retrieval techniques used open ended questionnaire. Total respondents were 250 participants of elementary school students, age range between 10-12 years. The data were processed with the categorization of content analysis. The results showed that the contribution of social support from family was more instrumental to the achievement of elementary school
subjects (86.4 %) , compared to the contribution of social support received from teachers (6.4 %) and friends (4 %). The amount of social support to the achievement was inseparable from the form of support received by the subject. Emotional support (44.4 %) was the highest frequency of social support form, followed by the spiritual support (18.8 %), relational support (16.0 %), support informational (12.4 %), material support (5.2 %) and temporal support (3.2%).
