Abstract

Act No. 10 of 2009 on tourism mention that tourist attraction is anything that has a uniqueness, beauty, and value in the form of rich natural diversity, culture, and the result of man-made target or destination of tourists visit. Tourism in Indonesia is an important economic sector. The increasing number of tourist arrivals to Indonesia during 2013, which reached 8.8 million, an impact on the estimates of tourism foreign exchange earnings of US $ 10.1 billion. Natural and cultural resources is an important component of tourism in Indonesia. Geopark as one of the tourist concept is very suitable to be applied in Indonesia because of the natural and cultural richness of being owned. Geopark is an area that has a prominent geological elements including the value of archeology, ecology and culture, in which local communities invited to act-as well as to protect and enhance the natural heritage functions. Thus, in the Geopark must take place at least three important activities, namely: conservation, education, and Geotourism. In line with the principles of sustainable tourism that is applied throughout the world, geo-education program, geoconservation, and the growth of the local economy through tourism value should be increased and realized in accordance with the goals and objectives of building a geopark. The purpose of the establishment of a geopark priority for economic development, education and conservation of nature. Empowerment of local communities is a priority in the economic development in geopark area.
