Abstract

Komodo National Park is a conservation area that gets the attention of the international community because it is the only natural habitat of the komodo dragon (Varanus komodoenesis) as the largest lixard in the world that is unique and endemic. As an icon of national pride, the government of Indonesia through the ministry of forestry authority seeks to maintain and preserve the conservation area. So to preserve the komodo national park in a sustainable manner requires a professional strateric plan. Based on this research, there are various forms of strengths., weaknesses, opportunities and threats in the implementation of conservation in the komodo national park. The analysis shows that the implementation of conservation in komodo national park are in a stable situation, in which the strength of which is supported by opportunities still carrying that powerfull that it can overcome the weaknesses and threats. Development and ecosystem conservation are essential to the global and local level is a very important strategic issue. So thatÂ’s serious protection becomes a key strategy for improving the shape, the quality of conservation, supported by other strategies that increase support facilities, human resources, service nature, and participation of local communities and local government. Various strategy needs to be followed up with policies that can be effective, efficient, accountable and transparent as the hallmark of a good governance.
