Abstract

Academic precedence makes thesis students add thesis extensions every semester. Academic procrastination or postponement arises due to several factors, one of which is self-regulation. However, not all students optimize good self-management so that delays often appear. The purpose of this study is to determine the contribution of self-regulation to academic procrastination in thesis extension students. The research population is students of the University of Merdeka Malang who are extending their thesis, using a simple random sampling technique. Based on the Slovin formula, the researcher conducted a study on 132 students. Data collection used an academic procrastination scale with a reliability of 0,891 and a self-regulation scale with a reliability of 0,849. The simple regression analysis technique used. The obtained regression value Y= 93,581 + (-0,535) indicates a negative influence of self-regulation on academic procrastination. Selfregulation contributes 51,5% to the behavior of academic procrastination. This research provides information that self-regulation has a contribution to the formation of academic procrastination behavior among students, thus students extending their thesis need to enhance self-regulation to reduce academic procrastination behavior.
