Abstract

Every child has equal rights and obligations without discrimination based on gender. Within the scope of the family there are still many gender discrimination based on sex. If gender discrimination is not addressed, it will form gender roles that limit children from behaving and thinking based on gender in the future. The purpose of this research is to find out whether there are significant differences in gender discrimination within families in terms of gender, socioeconomic status, and level of education. This study used a comparative descriptive model which was conducted on a sample of 284 aged 18-24 years who had siblings of different sexes. The results of the independent t test showed that there were significant differences in gender discrimination in families in terms of gender where the value of gender discrimination in men was higher than in women. In the socioeconomic status variable, there is a significant difference in gender discrimination in the sample used. In the variable level of education there is no significant difference in gender discrimination in the sample used.
