Abstract

The high level of academic stress among university students has become a serious concern due to its negative impact on mental well-being and academic achievement. One potential factor that can reduce academic stress is mindfulness. This study aimed to examine the relationship between mindfulness and academic stress among university students in Malang. Using a quantitative correlational approach and accidental sampling technique, the study involved 400 students from 15 universities. The instruments used were the mindfulness scale (α = 0.971) and the academic stress scale (α = 0.965). Data analysis using simple linear regression showed a significant negative relationship between mindfulness and academic stress (β = -0.747; p < 0.01), with mindfulness contributing 55.8% to academic stress. These findings suggest that the higher the level of mindfulness, the lower the level of academic stress experienced by students. Therefore, mindfulness development may serve as an effective strategy to help students manage academic pressure in a healthier and more adaptive manner.
