Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out how the hopelessness phenomenon occurs in subjects who experience negative events in the form of the end-semester tahfidz exam with the total juz being tested is 50% of the total memorization and announced one day before exam implementation. The subject in this study was a female student in grade 9. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Data collection using observation and interview techniques. The analysis process uses the hopelessness theory of Abramson, Metalsky, and Allow in 1989. The results of this study indicate that the subject is indicated to experience a sense of hopelessness. This is reflected in the three aspects that exacerbate the feeling of despair, all three are experienced by M, but there is one aspect that M does not fully experience. Based on the symptoms of hopelessness from Abramson et al in 1989, from 11 symptoms there are 7 symptoms experienced by M, meaning that M feels about 63% hopelessness in himself
