Abstract

Academic procrastination is a major problem for students in the learning process. The high level of academic procrastination in students is forgotten because of the high fear of failure. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of fear of failure on academic procrastination in students in the city of Malang. The research method used is quantitative. The sampling technique is non-probability sampling. The number of subjects in this study were 385 students using purposive sampling method. The research instrument used is the network scale for failure and the academic procrastination scale. Psychological scale data collection method using a Likert scale. Data analysis used simple linear regression analysis. The results showed that the value of sig < 0.05 so that security would have a significant influence on academic procrastination. The regression coefficient of 0.885 means that an increase in fear of failure by one unit will increase academic procrastination by 0.885. The R-Square value on the effect of fear of failure on academic procrastination is 0.733. This means that the effect of fear of failure on academic procrastination in students in the city of Malang is 73.3%. That is, the fear of failure to contribute effectively to 73.3% when eliciting a behavior that results in academic procrastination, on the other hand, can be influenced by one factor other than 26.7%.
