Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence between self-control and the tendency of social media addiction in early adulthood. This study uses quantitative research methods. The instruments used in this study are a self-control scale and a social media addiction tendency scale compiled
based on Griffits and Averill's theory using a Likert scale model. The population in this study are early adults who use social media and are not known with certainty (infinite population). The number of subjects in this study was 272 individuals selected by purposive sampling method. Data
were collected through self-control scale and social media addiction tendency scale in early adults, and analyzed by simple linear regression test with the help of SPSS software. Based on the results of hypothesis testing, a significant value of 0.00 <0.05, indicating that self-control has a significant
effect on the tendency of social media addiction. Based on the results of data analysis, the coefficient of determination of self-control variables (RSquare) for the tendency of social media addiction in early adulthood is 0.943. This shows that self-control has an influence of 94.3% on the tendency of social media addiction in early adulthood, while the rest is
influenced by other factors not mentioned in this study.
