Abstract

This research was conducted at the State Primary School 221 Babakan Sentral. The purpose of this study is to find out students are interested in reading, and the supporting and inhibiting factors for reading interest in students. This research method is a case study. The research approach used is qualitative research. Data source sampling was carried out using purposive sampling. The subjects or population in this study were students (V-C), totaling 6 people. The object of this research is the student’s interest in reading. Data collection tools in this study were in the form of observation sheets, interview sheets, and documentation. After being analyzed, it is known that the percentage of students reading interest reach 60%, and it can be seen that the supporting factors for students interest in reading are childrens psychologist, a pleasant atmosphere, and the support from the surrounding environment, while the inhibiting factor is the teacher's lack of motivation that can foster students reading interest, a sense of laziness that some students have, as well as a lack of student understanding of the importance of reading. To develop student’s interest in reading, it requires efforts such as, fostering a sense of pleasure in reading, so that reading activities are not just an obligation but a hobby for students and provide students with an understanding that reading is important. Thus, it can be seen that the reading interest of the students of State Primary School 221 Babakan Sentral is in the moderate category
