Abstract

Making non-fibrous sand concrete beams is useful for overcoming concrete problems that are unable to withstand the flexural tensile strength of concrete. Research on fibrous non-sand concrete beams uses bamboo fibers. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of fiber content of bamboo on the flexural strength and shear strength of non-fibrous sand concrete beams.The research is a test of 15 beams measuring 15 × 15 × 70 cm. The fiber length of bamboo is 10 cm, fiber shape is straight, distribution of 1⁄2 Hb fiber with variations in fiber content is 0,2%, 0,6%, 0,8%, and 1% by weight of cement. The flexural strength and shear strength tests of the beams are carried out at the age of 28 days, using a test kit of Hydraulic Concrete Beam Testing with capacity of 100 kN. The testing is according to ASTM C-78/C78M standard concerning standard test method for flexural strength of concrete (using simple beam with third-point loading).The results of the flexural strength and shear strength tests show that the variations in fiber content of bamboo 0,2% obtain the biggest flexural strength of 2.19 Mpa and shear strength of 0.41 Mpa. It is concluded that the variation in fiber content of bamboo 0,2% is the best flexural strength and shear strength.
