Abstract
Reinforced concrete consists of concrete and reinforced steel reinforcement. Concrete has compressive strength and steel reinforcement has tensile strength. Corrosion of steel reinforcement can result in damage to reinforced concrete structures which can affect the strength of the structure. There are ways that can be done to minimize the occurrence of corrosion on reinforcing steel, namely by coating the reinforcing steel such as epoxy resin, anti-rust paint, and GFRP. This research aims to determine the effect of three rust protection materials on the corrosion rate and compressive force of the pedestal column. The research consisted of testing the compressive force on the pedestal column and testing the corrosion rate on the reinforcing steel. The test objects are 15 pedestal columns measuring 15 x 15 x 30 cm. The variations in rust protection materials used are epoxy resin, anti-rust paint, and GFRP. The process to accelerate corrosion of reinforcing steel is carried out by immersing the test object in a Nacl solution of 3.5% concentration for 10 days using the galvanostatic method. Compressive force testing in accordance with ASTM C39 concerning (Determine the compressive strength of cylindrical concrete specimens such as mold cylinders and drill cores) and corrosion rate testing in accordance with ASTM G31 concerning (Standard Practice for laboratory immersion corrosion testing of metals) on reinforcing steel. The research results showed that the highest compressive force value was on the test object using epoxy resin, amounting to 370.00 kN. Then followed by anti- rust paint at 356.00, and GFRP at 340.00 KN. Meanwhile, the smallest corrosion rate was in the test object that used epoxy resin with a value of 3954.01 mpy. Then followed by anti-rust paint with a value of 5540.29 mpy, and GFRP 9237.70 mpy.
