Abstract

This study aims to compare the performance of IPv4 and IPv6 on a MikroTik router- based network using the PPDIOO method. With the increasing use of the internet, the need for more efficient and secure protocols has become crucial. Although IPv4 has supported the internet for decades, it is now facing limitations in the number of available addresses. As a solution, IPv6 was introduced with a much larger address capacity and better security features. This research involves performance testing with parameters such as CPU load, data sent, and average speed on TCP and UDP protocols in the Information Technology Faculty laboratory at Universitas Merdeka Malang. The results show that IPv6 has a lower CPU load on the TCP protocol (2% compared to 6% on IPv4) and demonstrates better security with IPsec support as a standard. Although IPv4 has a slight advantage in average speed on the TCP protocol and data sent, the security advantages and CPU efficiency of IPv6 make it a better choice for future network implementations.
