Abstract

Generally solid expansive soil has high enough energy support. But if the degree of water increases, it will cause swelling, and it can cause the decrease of soil power. The foundation of a structure which is built on expansive clay will accept big uplift energy caused by the development in an expansive clay. Uplift energy can cause the happening of heaving, cracking and the broken of a structure foundation. A Light construction in shallow foundation is more sensitive to the action from expansive soil than a heavy construction which uses deep foundation, especially when the development happens because incoming water into soil although it has been compacted. The level of development happened at expansive clay depends on the soil characteristics and the burden which endures the development. The relation among the development, the degree of water and the soil solidity at expansive clay is an important factor to know. Based on that explanation, this research is conducted to know the development pressure value at expansive clay Citra Raya Surabaya at dry side solidity, wet side and optimum proctor standard with test model in a laboratory and to know the geomembrane installation's depth around the swallow foundation on expansive land which has been compacted at dry side condition, wet side and optimum proctor standard which is hoped that the increase of water level and the development of expansive soil will not happen. This research is conducted with test model in a library using unsaturated clay Citra raya Surabaya using four different actions, they are: a model without geomembrane installation and without burden, with geomembrane installation with burden, model with geomembrane installation and without burden, model with geomembrane installation without burden.
